Constipation:

  • Increase fluids, fiber, and movement.

  • Consider magnesium citrate or stool softeners as needed.

  • Prioritize protein and healthy carbs.

Managing Loose Stools When You Start GLP-1

  • It’s common to have loose or watery stools when you first begin or increase a GLP-1 medication. Your body is adjusting.

  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. You may also sip broth or electrolyte drinks if needed.

  • For a few days, follow the BRAT diet (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast) to help firm your stools.

  • Avoid greasy, very fatty, and spicy foods, as well as sugar alcohols. If dairy bothers you, consider avoiding it temporarily.

  • Try smaller, more frequent meals and chew your food well.

  • Consider starting a gentle fiber supplement like Heather’s Tummy Fiber to help bulk up stool. Begin low.

  • If symptoms persist for more than 2–3 days, or if you notice dehydration or any concerning symptoms (such as blood or severe pain), reach out to your provider or go to an emergency care facility.
